What is a Good Friend?

I believe a good friend is someone who you can really rely on.  Someone that will not always agree with you and tell you when you're wrong.   A friend who knows what's going on in your life and checking up to see how you're doing.  One who knows you inside and out and still loves you for who you are.  One who will tell you things straight up.  One you know that you can always count on and call any time of the day or night because you know they want to help you out.  One who you know you can really trust.  One who appreciates the friendship between the two and makes it known by their actions.

I believe when friends have conflict, talking it out is the best way to really handle things.  I don't like the "cold shoulder" or the "no phone calls."  It's complete bullshit to me because between 2 good friends, it shouldn't be this way.  The 2 aren't strangers or mere acquaintances.  It's better to fight it out, argue, cry, and get over the conflict than to leave it there without anything getting resolved. 

I believe good friends should be patient with each other, and try to understand the other.  If one is going through a lot of problems, be patient and know it's because they are going through some hard times that they might be acting a certain way.  A good friend should know that about the other without thinking selfishly.  They should try their best to understand and be compassionate because if the situation was flipped around, they would want the same.  You may not understand the person completely, but the best thing you can do is try.
A good friend shouldn't call ONLY when they have problems and they need help.  They should call when things are good too.  Otherwise it seems like they only call when they need something and when things are good they forget about you.

I truly believe distance does not change a friendship unless both people let it become that way.  On the other hand, a relationship between a male & female is a different topic.

I don't have a particular reason why I wrote this today.  It just popped in to my head and I decided to share.  I'm sure there are many more things that I can write and I probably left out a lot, but this is it for now.
